Kilifi: Driver shot and robbed of KSh420,000 from construction workers

Kilifi – Police in Kilifi County have launched an investigation after a man was killed during a robbery.

Radio Salama Africa reported that George Omondi was killed while delivering KSh420,000 to a construction site in Rabai, Kilifi County.

According to police, Omondi was driving his boss who had withdrawn money from a bank in Mariakani to pay the workers.

The two men were ambushed outside the gate where General Mills is building a structure, by two armed robbers, who shot Omondi three times in the chest.

The boss was shot in the legs and hands, rushed to Mariakani Sub-County Hospital and then transferred to Pandya Hospital in Mombasa for surgery.

The suspects fled on a waiting motorcycle, with detectives suspecting it might be an inside job.

The detective who went to the scene recovered a spent 9mm cartridge even as the hunt for the suspect continued.
