A Superior man was sentenced to probation Friday after pleading guilty to possession of child sexual abuse material.

Gabriel Aaron McMartin, 19, pleaded guilty in March to one count of sexual exploitation of a child – possession, a class 4 felony. The other charges, including three counts of sexual exploitation of children – distribution, were rejected.

According to Shannon Carbone, spokeswoman for the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office, McMartin was sentenced Friday to four years of intensive supervised sex offender probation, which will be transferred to Jefferson County. Additionally, McMartin must complete 60 hours of community service, is not permitted to consume alcohol or drugs including marijuana, will be subject to a drug monitor at the discretion of probation and must register as a sex offender.

Carbone also said McMartin is not allowed to have contact with anyone under the age of 18, except for his biological sister.

“Our office pointed out to the court that, were it not for his age, we would otherwise be seeking a significant punitive sanction,” Carbone said. “This sentence seeks to balance his age and prospects for rehabilitation with the serious consequences of his conviction. »

Dozens of child sexual exploitation records were discovered after McMartin’s electronic devices were seized during a search warrant served Oct. 18 at McMartin’s home in the 500 block, according to a news release. from Briggs Place.

The investigation began after the Colorado Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a tip regarding the distribution of child sexual abuse material from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children .
